Trusting God When the Road Feels Foggy
You said “yes” to God’s calling. You stepped out in faith, started the thing, followed the nudge, or committed your gifts to something meaningful. You believed—maybe even knew—that God was in it.
But now? You feel stuck. Like you’re moving through molasses. Doors that were once wide open now feel shut. Progress is slow. Motivation wavers. You wonder if you misheard God—or if He’s stopped speaking altogether.
If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. And you’re not broken. You’re just in a season that many people encounter when walking out their calling.
Let’s unpack what to do when it feels like you’re standing still in the very thing you were once sure of.
Remember That Obedience Isn’t Measured by Speed
We live in a world that celebrates fast growth, big milestones, and overnight success. But God’s economy is different. His greatest works often unfold in slow, steady, quiet ways.
Think about Joseph. He was called through dreams as a teen—but spent years in slavery and prison before seeing that calling come to life. David was anointed king long before he took the throne. Even Jesus spent 30 years in obscurity before His public ministry began.
Your calling isn’t on pause—it’s in process. And sometimes the most fruitful seasons are the ones where roots grow deep, not wide.
Clarify, Don’t Quit
When you feel stuck, it’s tempting to assume you’re on the wrong path and need to abandon the whole thing. But sometimes, what you need is clarity, not a complete exit.
Maybe God is refining your focus. Maybe He’s shifting the way you live out your calling, or inviting you to partner with Him in a different capacity. Stuckness can be a signal to slow down, listen, and re-evaluate with God—not a reason to quit altogether.
Ask:
- What stirred my heart when I first said “yes”?
- Where am I resisting change or growth?
- What am I learning in this waiting?
Stay Faithful with What’s in Front of You
Calling is not always glamorous. It often looks like showing up when no one’s clapping, loving people when it’s inconvenient, and planting seeds you may never see grow.
Faithfulness in the “now” creates space for fruit in the future. You may not feel like anything is happening, but God is always working behind the scenes. Stay planted. Stay prayerful. Stay present.
Jesus said, “Whoever is faithful with little will be entrusted with much.” (Luke 16:10). Even when the “little” feels unremarkable, it matters deeply in God’s eyes.
Watch for New Doors—and Be Willing to Walk Through Them
Sometimes, feeling stuck in your calling is actually God’s invitation into something new. That doesn’t always mean a huge change—it might just mean a shift in perspective, approach, or attitude.
Be open to God redirecting your steps. A “yes” to Him is never wasted, even if it leads somewhere unexpected. What started as one calling may evolve into something richer and more aligned with where God is leading you now.
Don’t cling so tightly to how you thought it would look that you miss what God is actually doing.
Let God Minister to Your Heart First
Often, when we feel stuck, there’s something in our heart that needs tending—a fear, a disappointment, a weariness we haven’t brought to the Lord. Before pushing forward, pause. Rest in God. Let Him remind you that your worth isn’t tied to your productivity, performance, or visible progress.
You’re loved, even when you feel lost. You’re seen, even when no one notices your work. You’re still called, even when you feel unsure.
Let Him care for your soul before you worry about your next step.
